The old town of Troyes

Troyes is located on the Seine river in the Champagne-Ardenne region.

The old town centre has narrow streets. With wooden houses the upper levels stick out almost touching the houses across the street.

In the past if a fire started it would spread through the town very quickly.

You can find most of the old houses between the cathedral and the railway station. The town has 9 old churches and several museums. You can get a pass to most of the museum for 6 euros it gets you into them all bar one and is a good buy.

To the east of Troyes heading towards Chaumont you can see a double barred cross of Lorraine in pink granite. It is 145ft tall it is near the village of Colombey Les Deux Eglises where General Charles de Gaulle is buried. The can see his home and museum. Another place to visit in the area is Eperney where all the major champagne houses are located.

Troyes has some of the best designer-label clothes shops in France. If you go to the outskirts you will find factory shops selling designer-labels at low prices. You can also buy a wide range of household goods. If you wont to stay in the area there is a good choice of hotels or you can camp at Camping municipal. Which is 2 miles out of town on the road to Chalons
