La Rochelle was a small fishing village but a yachting mariner and tourist trade have turned it into a busy town. We holiday regularly in the Vendee Charente area of France, my son who lives in London likes to join us for a few days. He flies in from Stanstead London to La Rochelle about 40 mins and around £40 return flight good value when you consider the cost of driving. The airport reminds me of a small private flying club but it dose the job. If you are in a car you are just 3 miles from the town centre or take the second turn on the left as you leave the airport and your on the motorway. The Sealife centre
La Rochelle has a pleasant harbour and cafe area my son should know he spent 7 hours there when i miscalculated the tine it took to drive from Calais. In the port area you will find probably the best sea life centre in Europe it is open all year. This is interesting place to spend a few hours for all ages. There is a large car park right in front of the building
